Ukraine and Italy will sign a Memorandum of Understanding between Emergency Services. This was stated by Interior Minister Arsen Avakov during a meeting with the Deputy Head of the State Service for Civil Protection Maria Siklari.
The parties discussed the actions of the Italian coordination staff for localization and eradication of the spread of COVID-19 and further steps to respond to the spread of coronavirus.
“The experience of Italian colleagues aimed at counteracting the spread of COVID-19 is extremely important for the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Because Italy was able to overcome the peak of disease incidence, despite the large number of infected - more than 240 000 patients and 300 000 deaths - in particular, by law enforcement and volunteer forces”, - said Arsen Avakov.
It is an interesting practice for Ukraine to involve volunteers in the elimination of emergencies, in this case, contract the disease. According to Italian colleagues, more than 1 million people were involved in the elimination of the effects of COVID-19 and quarantine restrictions.
“As of this date, 35 000 carabineers have been involved in eliminating the spread of COVID-19. Due to this measures we managed to reduce the number of patients to 100-300 persons per day. The Italian government has extended the restrictive measures until October”, - said Maria Siklari.
The Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov said that in Ukraine every day 14 000 law enforcement officers (policemen, guards and rescuers) are being engaged to fight COVID-19.
During the meeting, the parties discussed further steps of the Italian government to resume schooling and mass events.
It is expected that all Italian educational institutions will start working in September. The main thing is social distance, availability of disinfectants and means of protection.
Particularly, the Ukrainian delegation got acquainted with the situational centers for air traffic management, air forces and means for firefighting, search and rescue, surface control, management of ships of emergency services and liquidation of emergencies on the water.
