International Mine Awareness Day in Mariupol
The United Nations' International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action is observed on April 4 each year. This day aims to raise awareness about landmines and progress toward their eradication. "Mine action" refers to a range of efforts to clear landmines and explosive remnants of war and to mark and fence off dangerous areas. It also includes assisting victims, teaching people how to remain safe in a mine-affected environment, advocating for universal participation in international treaties related to landmines, explosive remnants of war and their victims, and destroying landmines stockpiled by governments and non-state armed groups.
SES urges citizens not to provoke fires in natural ecosystems!
Rescuers remind that the careless handling of fires, multiplied by weather conditions that are dangerous for ecosystems, in most cases can lead to catastrophic consequences. And the fact that the main cause of the occurrence of fires in open areas is the human factor - it can easily be confirmed by impressive statistical indicators. Only from the beginning of March already we have 7 219 incidents of fires in open territories and in natural ecosystems!
Ukrainian rescuers are preparing for large-scale international exercises WEBER RESCUE DAYS
This summer, on June 19-22, the large-scale international exercises WEBER RESCUE DAYS will be held in the village of Horodyshche at the training area of the Main Department of the SES of Ukraine in Rivne oblast. Ukraine will host these exercises for the first time, and, aware of its responsibilities to international colleagues, the rescuers of the SESU are already getting ready to take part in the event.
The rescuers of Donetsk Region return on prevention of fires in natural ecosystems
The first warm and sunny spring days have brought the first fires in open areas in Donetsk Region. The firefighters have already extinguished several fires in ecosystems. However, despite the numerous warnings of rescuers about the danger of burning of leafy and coniferous litter, people continue to do it in the gardens, orchards, and yards.
Foreign representatives of the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency have visited the National University of Civil Defense of Ukraine
On February 14, a delegation of foreign representatives of the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency has been at the National University of Civil Defense of Ukraine. The delegation consisted of the Coordinator of the international technical assistance project Rene Michel, experts Patrick McCafferty and David Curry, and financial advisor Ashley Scott. The Deputy Head of the Department - Head of the Division of Radiation, Chemical Protection and Organization of Evacuation Measures of the Department of Population and Territories Protection of the Directorate for the organization of civil protection measures of the SES of Ukraine Hennadiy Dolbikov also visited the university.
The rescuers of Donetsk oblast received mine risk education banners from the International Committee of the Red Cross (VIDEO)
The pyrotechnical units of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Donetsk region clear the territory of the region from ammunition. However, a significant part of the Donetsk oblast is still contaminated with explosive objects. In 2017, 10 civilians were killed by mines, in 2018 – 4 civilians. At the beginning of 2019, 2 men were killed by grenade exploded in Mariupol. That’s why mine risk education is of primary importance. The rescuers continue informing the population about the danger of explosive remnants and mines by means of posters, brochures, leaflets, etc.
