Pyrotechnic units of the SES of Ukraine carry out daily work on surveying the territory of the country, detection, removal and disposal of explosive remnants of wars. So, since the beginning of the year, the pyrotechnics of the SES of Ukrainian have already removed and destroyed 11 thousand 002 explosive ordnance, including 98 air bombs. Often, obsolete ammunition is found by citizens in open territories near settlements, while visiting forests and parks, as well as on their own household plots during land works.

This day aims to raise awareness about landmines and progress toward their eradication. It also includes assisting victims, teaching people how to remain safe in a mine-affected environment, advocating for universal participation in international treaties related to landmines, explosive remnants of war and their victims, and destroying landmines stockpiled by governments and non-state armed groups.

The pyrotechnical units of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Donetsk region clear the territory of the region from ammunition. However, a significant part of the Donetsk oblast is still contaminated with explosive objects. In 2017, 10 civilians were killed by mines, in 2018 – 4 civilians. At the beginning of 2019, 2 men were killed by grenade exploded in Mariupol. That’s why mine risk education is of primary importance. The rescuers continue informing the population about the danger of explosive remnants and mines by means of posters, brochures, leaflets, etc.
